ABOUT THE
ART GARDEN

The Art Garden is a groundbreaking initiative designed to transform a refurbished public space into a sanctuary where art and nature intertwine to heal urban isolation and spark inspiration. Created through a collaboration between Henderson Land, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), Gillespies and international and local artists, this breathtaking extension echoes the fluidity and innovative language of the iconic building, The Henderson, which it adjoins.

More than a quiet retreat, it is a public artistic sanctuary blending art, innovation, and sustainability. Visitors can step into a lush, restorative environment, listen to soundscapes inspired by the natural world, and engage with art installations that explore sustainability—bringing a fresh perspective to urban living.

Welcome to the Art Garden at The Henderson, a true oasis in the city’s heart where art, technology and nature come together. This lively art and tech park was created to transform underutilized public space into something special. If the shape of the iconic Henderson building resembles a budding Bauhinia flower, then this garden acts as its vibrant green extension, reflecting the same fluid and sustainable design language crafted by Zaha Hadid Architects.

As you stroll along the garden paths, you’ll discover a variety of sculptures and installations by both international and local artists. Among these, you’ll find three new commissioned artworks that use technology to help us see and appreciate nature in fresh, unexpected ways.

We invite you to start your journey at The Breathing Tree, the centrepiece of the garden. From there, feel free to explore the rest of the artworks at your own pace. Enjoy your visit!

As you stroll towards the 200-year-old Chorisia tree in the Garden, prepare to be captivated by a stunning display of colourful lights dancing in harmony with immersive music. The tree’s swollen trunk, a distinctive characteristic of this species, acts as a natural canvas where smaller light particles gradually morph into larger, organic patterns. This enchanting transformation highlights the life force of the tree, revealing its inner rhythm and energy flow. The installation fosters a meditative atmosphere, evoking a sense of wonder and reminding us of our deep connection with nature.

This installation marks German artist and photographer Philipp Frank’s debut in China and his first permanent installation worldwide. His artistic journey began in graffiti and has evolved into an interdisciplinary approach to land light art, combining image capturing, illustration, and art direction. By using projection mapping on natural surfaces such as rocks, trees and driftwood, he creates magical lightscapes – like the one you see before you – that seamlessly blend nature and technology.

Make sure to visit Hypnotic Dream during different seasons to fully experience the energy cycle of the Chorisia tree!
